Yaxcopoil

State: Yucatan

Type of Hacienda: Sisal

Service: Site museum

Location: It is within the limits of Umán, 33 kilometers along Federal Highway 261 from Merida to Uxmal.

History: The name of the hacienda means “place of the green poplars”. The principal drawing room is presided over by two oil paintings: Donaciano García Rejón Mazó and his wife Mónica Galera Encalada, who in 1864 acquired the hacienda, which had been in existence since the time of the Spanish colony. From then on the property passed from father to son down to its present owner. An interesting detail is that the main house at Yaxcopoíl has been used several times as the setting for movies.
